11:45 Quarterly Newsletter

June 17th, 2012

Summer is now upon us, and the need for a Holy presence in our community is greater than ever.  If you are already registered as a member of 11:45 and are not actively engaged, we encourage you to contact us to recommit yourself and find out how you can help. Our next general 11:45 all-hands meeting will be held on Friday, August 3rd, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Life Change Christian Center, located at 3635 N. Williams.   We urge all volunteers to gather, hear the latest news and meet with their teams for updates and planning.

To sign up to volunteer for any of our teams, post prayer requests and keep up on 11:45 news and current events, please visit our website at  www.eleven45.org .  You can also follow the activities of 11:45 on Facebook and Twitter (links on the website).  For more information about any of our activities, you can contact our administrator, Marcie Spruill, at marcie@eleven45.org or 503-995-3448.

Updates from our teams:

The THERE team has been patrolling the Killingsworth and Albina area inNE Portlandand it didn’t know what hit it! THERE: a visible presence, showed up in the Power of God. The students from Portland OIC, PCC andJeffersonHigh Schoolnot only recognize the lime green vests now, but have also joined the team for prayer.  Portland Mayor Sam Adams and Portland Police Commander Leloff have also walked with the team to experience first-hand the impact we’ve had on the community.

Minister Johnny Bradford has diligently been on post even during the rainy season. He and the other volunteers have been present when rumors have spread that fights were planned in the area. They work alongside and are welcomed by the Campus Police and the local business owners. Although summer is upon us and the dynamics of the area will change, we are thankful that the violence was reduced during the time the THERE team was on duty.

Summer is an especially busy time for the THERE team and the need for volunteers is great.  We will again have teams patrolling HolladayParkat lunch and evening walks at Holladay, Unthank and PeninsulaParks.  All THERE team members should contact Minister Bradford at 503-454-8198 or johnnybradford79@yahoo.com to let him know your availability.

Help carry each other’s burdens. In this way you will follow Christ’s teachings.  (Gal 6:2 GW)

Changing Our Community, One Youth at A Time

SHARE is the mentoring component of 11:45 that provides a “connecting presence” to young men and woman confronting the challenges of life.   Partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters and At Promise, SHARE has successfully mobilized 85 volunteers who weekly mentor youth in our community.   Through Big Brothers Big Sisters, SHARE/11:45 is touching and changing the lives of our young people.

SHARE  has expanded its outreach to now include a partnership with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s  office, whereby 11:45 Pastors mentor first time offenders charged with a misdemeanor(s).  SHARE/11:45 has 23 active cases representing 19 people that will be served in this program.

If you are one who has the passion to make a difference in our community; if you relish the opportunity to shape the lives of many of our youth who are in search of someone who will show them a good path to “life”; if you are willing to “SHARE” your time, wisdom and experiences, then SHARE is looking for you.  We cannot not mass produce thriving youth, but we can change our community one youth at a time.  If you are interested in signing up to be a Big Brother or Big Sister, or if you have signed up and have not been contacted, please contact Ms. Chabre Vickers at 503.943.5788  or chabre.vickers@bbbsnorthwest.org .  If you would like additional information on any of our mentoring opportunities, please contact our administrator.

The CARE team has developed a group of  “C.A.R.E. FIRST RESPONSE TEAMS” to support, encourage and assist families and individuals who are being impacted by gang violence and its repercussions.  The First Response Teams will be contacted after a gang-related shooting and they will make contact with the family, offering prayer, assessing needs and determining what resources are needed to support the family and/or individual. Grief counseling training will be provided for all members of the First Response Teams as well as for those participating in CARE.

If you have a heart to provide support for families and individuals affected by gang violence, please consider signing up to become a member of our CARE team.

For our 11:45 family in PRAYER, summer is a welcome time, though it will also prove to be intense.  The past few months we have regrouped as a team and still have a lot of building blocks to put in place so we are successful in our fellowship with our collective 11:45 Members.  Our general 11:45 meetings are great opportunities to engage with other teams, but in order for the PRAYER team to achieve our goals we urge members to attend our monthly PRAYER team meetings (see below).

At our last general 11:45 meeting, we delivered our 13 Prayer Points to 11:45 Pastors and members.  If you don’t know them or have them in hand please visit our website, take a glance and share them with those interested in joining.  It’s as easy as pie and it’s a lot better for your soul!  Have a safe summer and please stay involved.  Your participation and prayers are necessary to our long term value to the people we are committed to supporting with our mission and work.
